UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's gymnastics team finished third in the College Gymnastics Association's team academic championship and saw 13 student-athletes earn All-America Scholar-Athlete honors.
Penn State finished the 2017-18 academic year with a 3.362 team grade point average, placing them third in the nation, trailing first-place William & Mary, 3.531 GPA, and Nebraska, 3.419 GPA.
The Nittany Lions improved their overall team GPA by almost a full point from 2016-17, where they finished fifth with a GPA of 3.284.
Seven student-athletes earned 2018 first team All-America Scholar-Athlete honors, led by Jack Baldwin, Michael Burns, and Noah Roberson, who all finished with 4.0 GPAs.
Chris Sands, Wyatt Tyndall, Benjamin Cooperman, and Brayden Borromeo round out the first team honorees.
Alex Thomason, Colin Coates, Stephen Nedoroscik, Greg Tamargo, Sam Zakutney, and Alex Frack all earned second team honors for their performance in the classroom in 2016-17.
Since the inception of the award in 1991, the Nittany Lions have received 83 first team All-American Scholar-Athlete honors and 52 second team All-American Scholar-Athlete honors.
