ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Penn State women's golf team had three of its seniors receive Big Ten preseason honors earlier Wednesday afternoon. Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.), Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) and Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) were each named a 2018-19 preseason honoree by the conference office.
The conference honored a total of 42 players from the 14 member schools when they released the list early Wednesday afternoon.
Last season the trio of then-juniors finished top-3 on the team in scoring average with Basso leading the way with a 73.59 stroke average playing in all nine events. Basso then earned an individual spot in the NCAA Madison Regional where she finished tied for 42nd in the 96-player field. Basso had eight top-10 finishes in 2017-18 including three top-5's.
Rogowicz and Waller concluded the 2017-18 campaign with a 74.31 and 74.46 stroke average, respectively, with nine combined top-10 finishes, four of which were top-5's. Rogowicz also took home individual first-place in the opening tournament of the 2017 fall season at the William & Mary Invitational.
All three student-athletes had successful summers with Rogowicz competing in the LPGA ShopRite Classic as well as the US Women's Amateur alongside Waller while Basso secured her second-straight WGAP Match Play Championship.
Penn State opens the fall portion of its 2018-19 schedule when they travel to Charleston, South Carolina for the Cougar Classic on September 9-11.
