Last Time Out for Penn State
The Penn State men lost to No. 23 Virginia in a dual meet on Oct. 6, but their showing was strong enough to garner votes in the first TYR Top 25 poll and sweep the Big Ten weekly awards.  The Nittany Lions were led by senior diver Hector Garcia Boissier, who was named the Big Ten Men's Diver of the Week, as he earned a final score of 335.03 in the 1-meter, enough to receive a spot to the NCAA Zone Regionals. For the swimmers, Penn State had solid outings from Big Ten Men's Swimmer of the Week Nathan Schiffmann, who placed second in the 500 free, 0.15 seconds from first place. Michael Daly also had a standout first meet, earning Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors with three top-three finishes.

The Penn State women also came up short against No. 7 Virginia, but swept the Big Ten weekly awards. Senior captain Ally McHugh led both Penn State and the Big Ten in the 500 and 1000 freestyles for the week to earn the Big Ten's Women's Swimmer of the Week award. She led the winning Nittany Lion trio in a sweep of the 1000 free taking first place with a time of 9:52.54 while also earning two additional top-three finishes. Freshman Madison Murtagh earned a pair of top three finishes against UVA in her collegiate debut in both the 100 and 500 free completing both swims with times of 10:06.67 and 4:55.33, respectively, to earn Big Ten freshman honors. Additionally, Christina Crowell neared zone scores two top-three finishes to earn Big Ten diving honors, as she took second in the 1-meter by earning 261.45 points and third in the 3-meter with 266.03 points.

Scouting the Colonials
George Washington swam in the TYR Fall Classic hosted by Florida International University to open its season last weekend. George Washington's Emils Pone and Andrea Moussier were recognized by the Atlantic 10 for their performances at the meet, as Pone was named Swimming and Diving Men's Performer of the Week, while Moussier picked up Women's Rookie of the Week honors. The Colonials finished third on the men's side and fourth on the women's side.
