Women's Golf Completes Fall Season at Landfall Tradition this Weekend

WILMINGTON, N.C. – After two weeks away from competition, the Penn State women's golf team closes out its fall season with a trip to the Landfall Tradition hosted by UNCW at the Country Club of Landfall – Dye Course on Friday, October 26 – Sunday, October 28.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Penn State closed September strong with back-to-back tournament victories at its own Nittany Lion Invitational and the Princeton Invitational and began the month of October with a record-setting second place finish at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational.
  • Senior Cara Basso earned Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week after earning her second runner-up finish of the fall season with a new career-low 9-under, 207 finishing just two strokes off the lead. Basso shot a final round 5-under, 67 for a new career-low while tying her personal best.
  • As a team Penn State recorded a new tournament school record of 4-under, 860, after shooting a tournament and school record 10-under, 278, during the final round of play.
  • Senior Jackie Rogowicz also played well registering her first top-10 finish of the fall with a 2-under, 216, to tie for seventh.

THE TEAM

  • The Nittany Lions won't make any changes from that record-setting lineup as head coach Denise St. Pierre is bringing the same five who have competed in each of the past two tournaments with her down to the Tar Heel State.
  • Basso and Rogowicz will be joined by fellow senior Lauren Waller along with junior Megan McLean and freshman Sarah Willis.
  • Each player has a stroke average of 74 or better this fall with Basso leading the way with a 71.50 and three top-ten finishes. Willis is second averaging just over par at 72.20 with Rogowicz right behind at 72.90.

ABOUT THE LANDFALL TRADITION

  • This marks the fifth straight year that Penn State has wrapped up its fall season at the Landfall Tradition as the tournament itself enters its 17th year.
  • The course is a 6,166 yard par-72 and has hosted the NCAA Division I Championships twice in 1995 and most recently in 2010.
  • Including the Nittany Lions, there are 18 schools in the field this weekend, eight of which are ranked inside the WGCA Top-25.
  • Duke and Virginia enter the weekend No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, while Arkansas (No. 11), Wake Forest (No. 12), Purdue (No. 15), South Carolina (No. 16), Furman (No. 17) and Michigan State (No. 25) are also making the trip to Wilmington this weekend.
  • Four Big Ten teams are in the field this weekend as Penn State and Michigan State are joined by Michigan and Maryland.
  • Rounding out the 18-team field are host UNCW, Central Florida, LSU, NC State, UNC, Notre Dame and Oklahoma State.
  • The format for the tournament is three rounds with a single round each day. Friday and Saturday will feature split tees with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. while Sunday with be an 8:45 p.m. shotgun start.
