Women's Golf Finishes 8th at the Landfall Tradition

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Through tough conditions all weekend long and a stacked field at the Landfall Tradition, the Penn State women's golf team finished eighth in the 18 team field after firing a 304 (16-over) during the final round on Sunday afternoon at the Country Club of Landfall Dye Course.

The Nittany Lions finished the tournament at 42-over carding a score of 905 during the three-day tournament.

"We lost a few strokes coming in again, when you are used to shooting closer to par and find yourself over par you tend to press. That may have been the reason we didn't stay closer to the top-three teams, but I definitely think we belonged there," mentioned head coach Denise St. Pierre.

Duke captured the championship after registering a 3-under round of 285 to finish the tournament at 15-over, 879 while South Carolina (17-over, 881), Arkansas (18-over, 882), Virginia (28-over, 892) and Michigan (32-over, 896) round out the top-5.

Senior Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) finished the tournament in a tie for 18th in the 96 player field at 7-over after shooting a 6-over, 78, in the final round on Sunday.

Freshman Sarah Willis (Eaton, Ohio) and senior Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) each carded final round scores of 3-over, 75, to finish the tournament tied for 24th at 9-over. Senior Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) used a 4-over, 76, in the final round to finish 16-over while junior Megan McLean (Lebanon, N.J.) shot 6-over, 78, on Sunday to wrap up the scoring.

"The golf course played difficult all weekend, but all-in-all in this field a top-ten finish is very good. Hopefully the team will be hungry to get out in the spring and have more opportunities to play with the top teams in the nation," concluded St. Pierre.
