Women's Golf Tied For Fourth After Round One at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Penn State women's golf team completed the opening round of play at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational on Friday afternoon and currently sit tied for 4th in the 12-team field.

The Nittany Lions shot an 8-over round of 296 to begin the weekend with senior Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) continuing her strong start to the season firing an even-par 72 to pace the team. Basso collected four birdies on the round with a pair of bogeys and one double and is currently tied for seventh after the first 18 holes of competition. Basso led the team with her four birdies and as a group, the Nittany Lions recorded 14 red numbers on the day.

The host Wildcats had an eye-popping opening round shooting 8-under, 280, as they lead the field by 11 strokes heading into Saturday's second round. Notre Dame (3-over) and Middle Tennessee (7-over) round out the top-three while Western Kentucky sits tied with the Nittany Lions in fifth position.

Junior Megan McLean (Lebanon, N.J.) opened with a 2-over 74 and is tied for 20th while senior classmates Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) and Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) along with freshman Sarah Willis (Eaton, Ohio) all carded rounds of 3-over 75 and sit tied for 27th.

Playing as an individual, junior Maddy Herr (New Hope Pa.) faltered a bit over the final four holes and finished the day at 8-over after an opening round 80.

The Nittany Lions will once again begin play tomorrow as they tee it up from 9:00 a.m. – 9:36 a.m. off hole number one.
