UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – A strong final 13 minutes led #24/RV California to a 75-58 win over the Penn State women's basketball team Sunday afternoon at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Penn State hung tough with the nationally-ranked Golden Bears for three quarters of the game as the Lady Lions held a 43-39 lead at the 3:14 mark of the third quarter. Cal closed the game on a 36-15 run, however, en route to the 75-58 win.
Junior Siyeh Frazier led Penn State with a career-best 17 points. Sophomore Alisia Smith recorded a double-double with 10 points and a career-best 11 rebounds, while senior Teniya Page chipped in 10 points of her own.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cal jumped out to a 5-0 lead before senior Amari Carter drained a three-pointer to ignite a 9-3 Lady Lion run over the next 2:44 that put Penn State in front 9-8. The Golden Bears closed the term by scoring five of the final six points, however, to take a 13-10 lead into the second quarter.
- A pair of three-pointers from Frazier and Page put Penn State up 16-15 a minute and a half into the second quarter, but Cal answered with the next eight points to pull ahead 23-16 at the 6:13 mark.
- The Golden Bears stretched their lead to 28-19, but a jumper from freshman Karisma Ortiz was followed by four-straight Frazier points to trim the Cal advantage down to 28-25 with 2:26 to play in the opening half. The Lady Lions were within two after a jumper from freshman Bexley Wallace before Cal closed the half with a pair of free throws to take a 33-29 lead into the break.
- Penn State came out of the locker room hot, opening the second half on a 14-6 run to jump in front 43-39. Sophomore Kamaria McDaniel contributed five points to the streak and Cal turned the ball over four times during the stretch to put PSU in front by four with 4:48 to play in the third quarter.
- The Golden Bears responded quickly, however, closing the term on a 15-2 run to take a 54-45 lead into the final 10 minutes.
- Frazier added eight points in the fourth quarter, but Cal maintained its momentum to seal the 75-58 win.
STAT STANDOUTS
(11/11/2018) Lady Lions Fall To No. 24 California
- Frazier, Page and Smith all finished in double figures for the second-straight game.
- Page and Carter finished with a team-leading four assists apiece.
- Page added six rebounds as well.
- Cal was led by three-time All-American Kristine Anigwe's 24 points and 22 rebounds.
- Cal turned the ball over 21 times. The last time Penn State forced 20 or more turnovers was against Radford March 15th, 2018 in the first round of the WNIT.
KEY NOTES
- There was a span of seven minutes in which Penn State did not allow a field goal to be made. (final 4:37 of the second quarter and first 2:23 of the third quarter)
- Page passed Tiffany Longworth on Penn State's career assists leaderboard, moving into 13th with 325 total assists.
- Page also passed Kathy Phillips on Penn State's career field goals made list, moving into 15th with 544.
- Amari Carter tied Shelly Caplinger on Penn State's career three-pointers made list at 76. Carter is two treys away from 22nd place.
- In addition to her career-best 11 rebounds, Smith also collected a career-high four steals.

- "Cal is a really good team and Kristine Anigwe is certainly one of the best post players in the country. I thought we played with tremendous effort and heart for really the first three quarters. I think late in the fourth quarter it kind of got away from us."
- "Up until that point I thought we did a really good job of being physical, being tough, and rebounding. I thought our zone gave us some good looks defensively and we were able to get out in transition."
