Heminger Honored As CHA Rookie of the Month

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State freshman Izzy Heminger was named the College Hockey America (CHA) Rookie of the Month for November as announced by the league on Dec. 5.

Heminger had a breakout month for the Nittany Lions as one of Penn State's most productive and effective defenders. She led all conference freshman with five points in November on a pair of goals and three assists.

The Dublin, Ohio native netted her first career goal on Nov. 4 against Syracuse in unassisted fashion and her performance that day began a stretch of solid play for the rest of the month.

The next weekend, Heminger recorded a three-point games against RPI Nov. 16 to become the second Nittany Lion freshman to post a three-point game this season (Loli Fidler, Oct. 27). Heminger received CHA Rookie of the Week honors for her performance.

After beginning the season with just one point through nine games, Heminger has tallied six points over the last seven games and has recorded 11 shots on goal.

In addition to her offensive statistics, Heminger's work in the defensive zone has been noticeable, as she has been effective in moving the puck from the the defensive end to spring the Nittany Lions on the offensive.

Heminger becomes the first Nittany Lion to win CHA Rookie of the Month since Natalie Heising won the award in December of 2017. Heising also won the honor in November of 2017.

The only other Nittany Lion to be named CHA Rookie of the Month was Shannon Yoxheimer who won the award in 2012, also in November.

The Nittany Lions are currently on their midseason break and will return to action in a non-conference series at Boston University Dec. 30-31. Penn State's next home game at Pegula Ice Arena is set for Tuesday, Jan. 8 versus Cornell.
