Women's Hockey Travels To Rochester To Face RIT

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pennsylvania – The Penn State women's hockey team takes on RIT in a road conference series this coming weekend Feb. 22-23 at Gene Polisseni Center in Rochester N.Y.

NITTANY NOTES
Penn State has tied its last three games, including both games of last weekend's series against Mercyhurst at Pegula Ice Arena. The Nittany Lions tied both games within the last minute of the second and third periods to tie the Lakers 3-3 cumulatively for the weekend.
 
RIT is also unbeaten in its last three games with a pair of wins and a tie. The Tigers went 1-0-1 against Syracuse last weekend, including a 1-0 win at home.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES
Penn State leads the all-time series against RIT 17-13-3. The Nittany Lions have won six-straight over the Tigers, including two games at Pegula Ice Arena back in November. Penn State shut out the Tigers 3-0 with over 50 shots on target in game one before taking a narrow 2-1 win in game two.
 
GETTING OUT IN FRONT
Penn State has had its greatest success this season when scoring the first goal and leading after the first period. The Nittany Lions record is 8-2-3 overall when scoring the first goal of the game and Penn State is also unbeaten when leading after one period of play at 6-0-1. Penn State is also 9-1-2 when carrying a lead into the second period.
 
WORKING OVERTIME
The Nittany Lions have been involved in 24 overtime games over the last two seasons, which is the highest mark among all teams in the nation over that span. That includes nine OT periods this season.
 
BRENNEMAN'S BEST

  • Jenna Brenneman's 10 wins ranks second all-time in a single season (1st, Celine Whitlinger, 13 wins, 14-15)
  • Her four shutouts is tied for first in a single season (Whitlinger, 4, 15-16) and is tied for third in a Nittany Lion career.
  • She is on pace to finish with the second-best GAA in a single season and the second best single-season save percentage in team history.

HAVING A RECORD YEAR
Junior forward Katie McMillan changed from a blue liner to a forward this season and has been a versatile scoring threat for the Nittany Lions this season. After being named to the CHA All Rookie team as a defender her first season, McMillan has set career highs in points (12) and goals (7) in her junior campaign.
