UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's golf team travels to Houston, Texas, for its annual Challenge at Champions competition vs. Michigan State. The 2019 event, held Sunday, Feb. 24, will focus on individual play on the Jackrabbit course at the Champions Golf Club, a par-71, 7018-yard course with narrow fairways and small greens with challenging bunkers.
"We really look forward to our three days at the Champions Golf Club," said Penn State head men's golf coach Greg Nye. "They have great practice facilities and historic golf courses to play in a welcoming environment."
Nittany Lion seniors JD Hughes, Charles Huntzinger and Ryan Dornes, junior Alec Bard and sophomore James McHugh will participate in the Challenge at Champions.
The Champions Golf Club was founded by Masters champions Jackie Burke Jr and Jimmy Demaret in their hometown of Houston, Texas. Champions has played host to several high-profile events in the club's 60-year history.
Penn State has claimed three consecutive Challenge at Champions titles over the Spartans and Cole Miller finished as the low man in the 2018 event, shooting a 1-under 70. Ryan Davis and Dornes were close behind with an even par 71 and 1-over 72, respectively.
