Lady Lions Wrap Up Tough Road Stretch Wednesday at Michigan State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's basketball team hits the road for the final time in the regular season Wednesday night when the Lady Lions travel to Michigan State for a 7 p.m. tipoff.

OPENING TIPS

  • Penn State heads to Michigan State Wednesday night for the penultimate game of the regular season. The contest was originally scheduled for Jan. 31, but postponed due to the polar vortex that was gripping the country at the time.
  • Wednesday's game wraps up a tough stretch of which four of five games were on the road.
  • Four Lady Lions are averaging 9.5 or more points, led by Teniya Page's 19.3 ppg. Page's 19.3 ppg ranks second amongst all Big Ten players, and 34th in Division I.

 
IF PENN STATE BEATS MICHIGAN STATE

  • The Lady Lions would earn their third-straight win, marking Penn State's longest win streak in Big Ten play since a three-game stretch last season (Jan. 14-23, 2018).
  • Penn State would earn its third road win of conference play and mark the first time since Feb. 5 and Feb. 14, 2017 that PSU has won back-to-back Big Ten away games.

 
SCOUTING MICHIGAN STATE

  • The Spartans enter Wednesday night's contest with an 18-9 overall record and 8-8 mark in Big Ten play.
  • Michigan State won its most recent game Sunday with a 74-64 home victory over Michigan. The win over the Wolverines snapped MSU's three-game losing streak.
  • Michigan State owns the Big Ten's second-leading scoring offense as the Spartans average 77.2 points per game.
  • Four Spartans are averaging double-digit points, led by Shay Colley's 15.1 ppg. Jenna Allen (12.8 ppg), Nia Clouden (11.8 ppg) and Taryn McCutcheon (10.4 ppg) round out the balanced MSU attack.

 
AGAINST THE SPARTANS

  • Penn State and Michigan State were scheduled to meet on Jan. 31, but the game was postponed to Feb. 27 due to the polar vortex gripping the country at the time.
  • Penn State holds a 29-17 edge in the all-time series with the Spartans, including an 11-8 advantage when playing at Michigan State.
  • The Lady Lions will be traveling to East Lansing, Mich. for the first time since Feb. 11, 2016 when Penn State captured a 65-61 road win.
  • The Lady Lions won last season's meeting 74-59 in the Bryce Jordan Center on Feb. 4, 2018.
  • Last season's meeting featured a back-and-forth first quarter, but Penn State put together a 19-6 burst to end the second quarter before holding off the Spartans down the stretch to capture the 74-59 victory.
  • Teniya Page led the Lady Lions with 16 points. Amari Carter contributed 14 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Siyeh Frazier added 14 points.

 
BACK-TO-BACK WINS

  • The Lady Lions are on a two-game win streak after turning out their two best shooting performances of the season as Penn State downed Purdue 72-61 (Feb. 21) and Illinois 76-65 (Feb. 24).
  • Penn State shot a season-best 52.8 percent (28-for-53) from the field Sunday in the road win against the Illini. The Lady Lions drained a season-high 10 three-pointers.
  • The Lady Lions were 50.0 percent (26-for-52) from the field in the Thursday victory over Purdue. It marked the first time that Penn State has shot at least 50 percent from the field since Dec. 6, 2017 against Fordham (55.8 percent), and the first time against a Big Ten opponent since Feb. 24, 2016 against Iowa (50.0 percent).
  • Junior Jaida Travascio-Green averaged 16.5 ppg in the two victories thanks to a 47.1 percent (8-for-17) performance from three-point range.
  • Senior Amari Carter and sophomore Kamaria McDaniel have chipped in 16.0 ppg in the two victories, while Siyeh Frazier has contributed 15.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest.

 
TOUGH STRETCH

  • The Lady Lions conclude one of the toughest stretches of the season Wednesday night at Michigan State.
  • Between Feb. 14 and Feb. 27, Penn State has played four of five games on the road. PSU is 2-2 so far in the five-game stretch with victories over Purdue and Illinois.

 
A LEAGUE OF HER OWN

  • Teniya Page is the first player in Lady Lion history to eclipse 2,000 career points, 400 career assists and 400 career rebounds.
  • She reached the milestone on Feb. 6 at Ohio State when she dished her fifth assist of the game and 400th of her career.
  • Page was just the second currently active Division I player who has accomplished all three feats. Central Michigan's Presley Hudson was the first currently active DI player to join the 2,000/400/400 club.

 
UP NEXT

  • The Lady Lions close out the regular season Saturday at home against Nebraska. The game will air nationally on the Big Ten Network and tipoff is set for 3 p.m. from the Bryce Jordan Center.
  • The program's five-member senior class will be honored prior to tipoff on Senior Day.
