Season-Best Times Highlight First Day of Big Ten Championships

IOWA CITY, Iowa. –  Penn State competed in a pair of relays to open the 2019 Big Ten Championships Wednesday at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium, earning season-best times in both events.

The Nittany Lions competed in both the 200 medley and 800 freestyle relays and set season-bests in both. Both relays finished seventh, giving Penn State 92 points to rank in a three-way tie for sixth overall with Purdue and Northwestern.

In the 800 free relay, Nathan Schiffmann, Michael Daly, Eben Krigger, and Hayden Harlow, combined for a time of 6:24.31, shaving 13.47 seconds off of their seed time for the second-fastest time in the event in Penn State history, 1.31 seconds shy of the record set in 2014.

In the 200 medley relay, the team of Liam Veregin, Brad Johnson, Tomer Zamir, and Gabe Castano finished with a time of 1:25.62, shaving 1.97 seconds off of their pervious time.

The Penn State men will continue competition at the Big Ten Championships Thursday with preliminaries beginning at 11 a.m. and finals starting at 6:30 p.m, CT. All sessions will be streamed live via BTN Plus on BTN2Go.
