UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's lacrosse senior attacker Madison Carter was named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List on Thursday night. Carter is one of 50 players on the watch list for the Tewaaraton, which recognizes the top women's lacrosse player in the nation.
Carter leads the Nittany Lions with 19 points this season, including 15 goals. She already has three games this season with five or more points. She was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week this past Tuesday.
She is coming off a six-point performance at No. 14 Princeton on Wednesday, where she scored five goals and tallied one assist. Carter earned five points, with four goals and an assist, in the season-opening win over No. 11 Towson. Against Cornell, Carter tied a career-high with six goals and added an assist. She has 21 career games with five or more points.
Carter's six points against Princeton pushed her to 216 for her career, tying with Laurie Gray (1981-84) for seventh all-time at Penn State. Carter is 11 points behind former teammate Katie O'Donnell (2015-18) for sixth place. Carter recently passed another former teammate, and current volunteer coach, Steph Lazo (211; 2014-17).
The Maryland native currently ranks fourth in career goals (196) in Division I among active players and ninth in career points.
This season, Carter leads the Big Ten and ranks 15th in the nation averaging 3.75 goals per game. She is fourth in the conference and 19th in the country with 15 goals and sits 17th in the nation averaging 7.75 shots per game.
The senior is a two-time IWLCA second-team All-American, a three-time IWLCA All-Region selection and a three-time All-Big Ten honoree. This marks her third straight season being a Tewaaraton Award candidate.
The No. 8 Nittany Lions, led by Head Coach Missy Doherty, are 3-1 heading into Saturday's matchup at No. 13 Loyola. The contest begins at noon with a broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
