Track & Field Opens Competition at the Bison Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Penn State track & field program opened the first day of competition at the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell University.

Michael Biddle's impressive spring continued as he won the men's javelin event for the third time this spring.  Biddle was followed by teammate Mark Porter, who finished second in the event.  Matt Nawrocki rounded out the top-five finishes for the Nittany Lions. Nawrocki finished fourth to give the Nittany Lions three of the top four places in the men's javelin. 

Along with Biddle's javelin win, Madison Smith placed second in women's javelin throw for the Nittany Lions. 

Marissa Sheva's performance in the 3000-meter steeplechase currently places her in the top-five in the Big Ten in the event.  Sheva competed the race in a time of 10:35.10 to give her a fourth-place finish. 

Moira O'Shea also moved into the top-ten in the Big Ten with her time in the women's 1500-meter race.  O'Shea finished ninth with a time of 4:23.34. 

The Nittany Lions were well represented in the men's 1500-meter race.  Five Nittany Lions finished in the top-ten in the event led by Colin Abert.  Abert placed second in the event for Penn State.  Along with Abert, Drew Maher placed third and James Abrahams finished fifth.

In the women's discus throw, Payden Montana set the tone early.  Montana's opening throw was good for second in the event. Piper Klinger also finished fourth in the women's discus.

Carena Nottoli and Megan Fry were another pair of Nittany Lions to finish in the top-five in their respective events.  Nottoli placed second and Fry finished fourth in the women's pole vault event.

The Nittany Lions will conclude competition at the Bison Outdoor Classic tomorrow.
