Women's Golf Finishes 11th at the Big Ten Championship

MAINEVILLE, Ohio – The Penn State women's golf team finished 11th at the Big Ten Championship following and even-par final round of 288 on Sunday afternoon at TPC River's Bend.

With unplayable course conditions on Saturday, the second round was cancelled and the championship was shortened to 36 holes with play beginning at 8 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Only four teams fired over par rounds as many teams went low during the final round with Ohio State using a 7-under, 28a, to capture the championship as the only team under par finishing at 1-under, 575. Purdue also went 7-under on the day falling three shots short of the Buckeyes finishing tied for second at 2-over along with Illinois and Indiana while Michigan State (4-over) rounded out the top-5. Northwestern jumped three spots to sixth after carding the low round of the day at 8-under, 280.

Senior Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) shaved 14 strokes off her score from the opening round tying her season-low with a 5-under round of 67 to climb 45 spots and finished tied for 24th at 4-over for the championship.

Junior Megan McLean (Lebanon, N.J.) also tied for 24th after carding an even par round of 72 on Sunday while senior Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) and junior Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) rounded out the team score with final round scores of 2-over and 3-over, respectively.

Freshman Sarah Willis (Eaton, Ohio) struggled closing out her first Big Ten Championship and finished in a tie for 42nd after a final round score of 6-over, 78, to finish the weekend at 7-over. Senior Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) bounced back after a tough opening round to card a 5-over score of 77 on Sunday finishing the tournament 16-over.

As a team Penn State cut 19 strokes off its opening round score using 15 birdies and a lone eagle from Rogowicz. The Nittany Lions will now await a possible at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament when the bracket is revealed early next week.
