Penn State set to host UMBC in NCAA First Round Game

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 1-seed Penn State will host UMBC on Sunday, May 12 at 12 p.m. in Panzer Stadium for the first-round game in the 2019 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament. The game will be aired on ESPNU with John Brickley and Mark Dixon on the call. 

TICKETS
Ticket prices are Adults $8, Youth (12 and under) $5, students from participating schools with ID $5, and groups (20 or more) $3. Ticket windows and gates will open 90 minutes before the start of the game.
 
Fans may purchase tickets at 1-800-NITTANY, on the PSU Account Manager, or at the ticket office at the Bryce Jordan Center, Monday – Friday between 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
 
Due to the quick turnaround, mobile ticketing is the preferred method of entry. PARKING
Parking for games played at Panzer Stadium will be available in the Jordan East lot, and while fans can bring bags into the facility, all bags are subject to search. Tailgating should be kept to the areas south of Dauer Drive in the grassy areas, keeping the aisles free for traffic to flow normally.

THE MATCH-UP
UMBC took down Marist in the play-in game to advance to the first round. UMBC won the America East Conference Tournament Title to get into the NCAA Tournament. Penn State took down Johns Hopkins in the Big Ten Conference Tournament to solidify its No. 1 overall seed.

TEWAARATON FINALIST
Grant Ament was named a Tewaaraton Finalist on Thursday, May 9. He is the first finalist in Penn State history. He is joined by Pat Spencer (Loyola), Michael Sowers (Princeton), TD Ierlan (Yale), and Jared Bernhardt (Maryland).

THINGS TO NOTE
- Mac O'Keefe is just two goals from breaking the Big Ten single season goals record of 61. He is at 60.
- Grant Ament broke the NCAA single season assists record on his 4th dime of the evening against Johns Hopkins (5/4). He is at 78 for his career.
-Penn State played five of the tournament teams in the regular season with a 5-1 record. Penn State topped Penn, Robert Morris, Maryland, Johns Hopkins (twice), and fell to Yale.

NCAA TOURNEY STATS
The Penn State junior and senior classes have one game of NCAA post-season experience as they made the tournament as the No. 7 seed in 2017.
 
Ament and O'Keefe were starters on attack in that game, along with Nick Cardile and Chris Sabia on D, and Colby Kneese in cage. Nick McEvoy, Nick Spillane, Robby Black, Tommy Wright, Kevin Fox and Gerard Arceri are the only active players to also see time.

ACTIVE STREAKS
Redshirt junior Grant Ament has the sixth longest point scoring streak in the nation, recording a point in all 45 of his career games played at 73-142-215.

Junior Mac O'Keefe is on a 22-game goal scoring streak, dating back to March 17, 2018. He has scored 80 goals during that time. His streak is good for ninth in the nation. He is also on a 25-game point streak that started on March 3, 2018 with 85-27-112.

Penn State holds the nation's longest win-streak at 11 games, tied with Penn. 

NCAA STAT RANKINGS
As a team, the Nittany Lions currently rank No. 1 in the nation in seven categories. They are the top team in points per game (27.80), scoring margin (7.07), scoring offense (17.33), assists per game (10.47), shot percentage (.426), and man-up offense (0.623). They also have the best winning percentage at 14-1 (.933).

Redshirt junior Grant Ament currently leads the nation in assists per game at 5.57. He also leads points per game at 7.21.

Junior Mac O'Keefe is No. 1 for goals per game at 4.00. He is also second in man-up goals at 10.

Freshman TJ Malone is fourth in the nation in shooting percentage at .492. Sophomore Jack Kelly is 10th at .469 and redshirt junior Dylan Foulds is 15th at .457.

Junior Gerard Arceri is 16th in the nation in faceoff winning percentage at .612 and 6th in groundballs per game at 9.40.
