Penn State Field Hockey Welcomes Practice Player Colin Hennessy

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; May 22, 2019 – The Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey team, under the guidance of head coach Char Morett-Curtiss, welcome practice player Colin Hennessy (Marlborough, Mass.) to the fold. Hennessey, a member of the United States' U20 men's team, will join the program in the fall and be a critical part of Penn State's day-to-day practice activities.

Hennessey played high school field hockey at Marlborough high school in Marlborough, Mass.  He earned three varsity letters for the Panthers as well as running cross country once.  Hennessey helped lead Marlborough to two District Championships as well as the state semi-finals once.  Hennessey was a multiple all-star as well.

An outstanding student, Hennessey has been accepted into the Schreyer Honors College and will begin school in the fall.  His academic accomplishments are as outstanding as his athletic ones.  He won the Regional Science Fair and the STEM Project Design in 2016-17. He plans on majoring in political science and/or communications.

Hennessey is the son of Katherine and Michael Hennessy.  Katherine played field hockey at Syracuse.  His younger sister Abby also plays field hockey while younger sister Emma plays soccer.

"We are thrilled to welcome Colin Hennessy to our field hockey program," said Morett-Curtiss. "He has experience as a member of the U.S. Men's U19 team and is on track for selection with the Men's National Team as well.  His experience playing field hockey around the world has prepared him to play at the highest level and we look forward to helping Colin achieve his field hockey aspirations and look forward to his contributions to every aspect of Penn State."

"He will certainly add an intense flair to our practice sessions," Morett-Curtiss continued. "Colin has been accepted into the Schreyer's Honors College and will be pursuing a degree in political science.   His mother Katherine was a field hockey standout at Syracuse under Kathleen Parker and his aunt, Ginny Hersperger Boynton ('79) was my teammate here at Penn State.  We welcome Colin and his family to Happy Valley."
