Ofotan and Team USA Set U20 World Record

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Justin Ofotan and his 4x100m relay teammates set a new U20 world record this weekend at the U20 Pan American Championships in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Ofotan and his team USA teammates ran a blazing 38.62 in the 4x100m finals to set the new U20 world record. Jamaica finished second in a time of 39.20 and Brazil finished third, clocking a time of 39.42 in the 4x100m final. The previous world record was set in 2004 by team USA at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Grosseto, Italy. That relay team ran 38.66 to establish the previous record.

Ofotan also competed in the 100m dash, running 10.47.

Drew Maher joined Ofotan at the U20 Pan Am Championships. Maher finished eighth in the 1500m final. Maher clocked a time of 3:59.16 in the 1500m race.

Ofotan and Maher both participated in the NCAA East Regional during their freshman seasons. Earlier this summer, Ofotan clocked a personal-best 10.21 in the 100m dash in qualifying for the U20 Pan Am Championships.
