UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State Women's Soccer team defeated the Minnesota Gophers 1-0 in overtime on Friday night. Ally Schlegel scored the game-winning goal in the 97th minute to give the Nittany Lions their sixth win of the season.

The Nittany Lions and Gophers were locked in a defensive struggle throughout the first half.
Penn State limited the Gophers offense to just one shot during the first 45 minutes of action. Despite just one shot, the Gophers did earn four corner kicks but could not capitalize on the opportunities.
Penn State's first chance to get on the scoreboard in the 15th minute of action. Cori Dyke took a pass and settled it at the top of the box. Dyke's shot on goal sailed just high and over the crossbar.
Another chance for the Nittany Lions came in the 24th minute of action. The Nittany Lions leading scorer, Ally Schlegel took a shot that went wide of the net and the score remained 0-0.
In the 37th minute, The Nittany Lions tallied a pair of shots and earned two corner kicks but couldn't get on the scoreboard.
Penn State and Minnesota finished the first 45 minutes of play tied at 0-0.
During the first 15 minutes of the second half, the Nittany Lions tallied a pair of shots and a corner, but were still held scoreless.
Through 75 minutes of action, the teams remained deadlocked in a 0-0 tie.
In the 77th minute, the Gophers nearly took the lead as a shot from a Minnesota player rolled just wide of the net.
The Nittany Lions were able to record one more shot in the second half, but couldn't find the net.
Penn State and Minnesota ended 90 minutes of regulation tied at 0-0.
In the first minute of the overtime period, a shot by Minnesota's Haley Hartkmeyer went just over the net and resulted in a goal kick for the Nittany Lions.
An intercepted pass by Devon Olive allowed for a counter attack for the Nittany in the 97th minute. Olive played the ball forward to Sam Coffey. Coffey struck a long shot on goal that was saved by the Minnesota goalkeeper. The rebound came out to Ally Schlegel who was following the play. Schlegel found the back of the net just beyond the outstretched hands of the Minnesota goalie to give the Nittany Lions a 1-0 win.
Schlegel leads the Nittany Lions with eight goals scored this season and a pair of game-winning goals.

The Nittany Lions head to No. 19 Wisconsin on Sunday, September 29. The game will air on ESPNU at 1 p.m.
The match against No. 19 Wisconsin will be the Nittany Lions fourth ranked opponent of the 2019 season.
