UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Two Penn State women's soccer student-athletes have earned Big Ten weekly honors announced Wednesday. Junior Sam Coffey was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and redshirt freshman Ally Schlegel earned Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week honors.
Coffey's impact has been immediate for Penn State. The Nittany Lion midfielder is tied for the team lead with three goals and is tied for second in the Big Ten in goals scored. Coffey's seven points this season is currently tied for third in the Big Ten. This past weekend, Coffey netted a goal and tallied an assist against Long Beach State and scored a goal against Loyola Marymount. Coffey has scored three goals three of her first four games as a Nittany Lion. This is Coffey's first Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor. Coffey was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com women's team of the week for her performance last weekend.
Ally Schlegel earned the first Big Ten weekly honor of her career following her two goal weekend. Schlegel scored against both Long Beach State and Loyola Marymount. Schlegel scored the first goal of a 3-1 win over Long Beach State and the second goal of a 3-0 win over Loyola Marymount. The redshirt freshman has appeared in all four games, making three starts for the Nittany Lions.
Penn State has outscored its opponents 12-1 during the current three game winning streak. The Nittany Lions are back in action on Friday, September 6 against No. 22 West Virginia.
