WINTHROP, Mass. – Penn State women's hockey junior goaltender Chantal Burke has been named the College Hockey America (CHA) goaltender of the week for her performance last weekend. The announcement came from the league Monday afternoon.
Burke posted back-to-back shutouts against RPI on home ice Oct. 11-12 as the Nittany Lions outscored the Engineers 5-0. She became just the second Nittany Lion ever to post two shutouts in back-to-back starts (Daniela Paniccia, Oct. 27-28, 2016).
In her first two career starts at Pegula Ice Arena, the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native was perfect with 24 total saves and no goals allowed. Friday's shutout was the first of her career, quickly followed by a second on Saturday.
Burke started her first two games of the season last weekend, Oct. 4-5, at No. 1 Wisconsin. She had 74 saves on the weekend, including a single-game best 40 in the second game.
Burke becomes the fifth student-athlete in program history to be named CHA goaltender of the week and the first since Jenna Brenneman won the weekly honor Jan. 22, 2019.
Burke and the Nittany Lions head on the road this upcoming weekend with a nonconference series at Providence Oct. 18-19.
