Men’s Soccer Earns United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Penn State men's soccer team under head coach Jeff Cook was recognized as a 2018-19 Team Academic Award winner as announced by the United Soccer Coaches.

The 2018-19 Nittany Lion squad registered a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average last school year under then first-year head coach Cook. The Nittany Lion also recorded the highest men's team GPA at Penn State in the fall of 2018.

Fourteen 2018-19 team members were named to the Academic All-Big Ten team last fall, the second-highest total in program history. Additionally, Daniel Gonzalez, Brandon Hackenberg and Pierre Reedy all earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors for recording a 3.7-plus GPA.

This is the first Team Academic Award under Cook's tutelage and the ninth all-time for the men's program.

College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a compositive grade-point average of 3.0 or better for all players on the roster for the 2018-19 academic year.

The Penn State women's soccer team was also recognized for such award.

The Nittany Lions host Northwestern on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Jeffrey Field.
