NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Nittany Lions continued competition at the Dr. Sander Invitational at the Armory on Friday, Jan. 24. Penn State's competition featured numerous field events on Friday at the Armory.
Sophomore Noah Swaby completed the final three events of the heptathlon to open the day for the Nittany Lions. Swaby set a pair of personal-best marks during Friday's competition.
Swaby ran a personal-best time of 8.20 to win the 60m hurdles in the first event of the day. Swaby followed up his performance in the hurdles with another personal-best mark in the pole vault. Swaby cleared 14-7.25 (4.45m) to set a new personal-best in the event.
In the final event of the heptathlon, Swaby finished his day strong by winning the 1000m event. Swaby ran 2:50.72, three seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
Swaby finished second in the heptathlon event with 5,292 points during two days of competition.
Junior Ben Peterson captured the shot put event title by throwing 60-9.25 (18.52m) to set a new personal-best in the shot put. Peterson's best throw came on his fourth throw of the event.
The women's pole vault was highlighted by a season-best mark by Katie Jones. Jones cleared 13-3.5 (4.05m) to place second in the women's pole vault.
Payden Montana and Breana Gambrell both secured third-place finishes in the shot put and long jump respectively. Montana threw 50-5.25 (15.37m) in the shot put and Gambrell jumped 19-6.25 (5.95m).
Lance Hamilton set an indoor personal-best mark in the triple jump for the Nittany Lions. Hamilton jumped 49-11.25 (15.22m) to place fourth.
The men's distance medley relay team of Billy McDevitt, Ben Bulkeley, Drew Maher and Evan Dorenkamp ran 9:54.18 to place third in the event.
The Nittany Lions continued competition tomorrow beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET.
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Penn State opened competition at the Rod McCravy Memorial on Friday afternoon. Five Nittany Lions qualified for semifinal events following the first day of competition.
Running a season-best mark of 7.53 in the women's 60m, Brooke-Lynn Williams qualified for the 60m semifinal on Saturday. Williams placed second in her heat with her time of 7.53.
The men's 60m race saw a pair of Nittany Lions advance to the semifinals. Sophomore Justin Ofotan and junior Will Henderson both qualified for the 60m semifinals. Both Ofotan and Henderson finished second in their respective heats to qualify for the semifinal.
Sincere Rhea ran a season-best mark of 7.89 to advance to the semifinal event in the men's 60m hurdles. Chibugo Obichere also qualified in the women's 60m hurdles, running a personal-best 8.68.
Gary Ross turned in a third-place finish in the men's 600m event with a time 1:18.38. Ross was followed closely by Karl Johnson who placed fourth with a time of 1:18.97.
The Nittany Lions continue competition at the Rod McCravy Memorial beginning at 12 p.m. ET tomorrow.
