Women's Hockey Hosts Robert Morris In First Home Series In Nearly A Month

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's hockey team takes on three-time defending CHA regular season champion Robert Morris at Pegula Ice Arena this weekend in a matchup featuring teams separated by just five points in the CHA standings.
 
Penn State has only two losses in its last ten games played, including earning at least two points at both Mercyhurst and Syracuse in its last two weekends of action. Both teams, along with Robert Morris, rank narrowly ahead of Penn State in the conference standings.

SUPERSTAR DAY
Saturday's game is Superstar Day at Pegula Ice Arena to promote the inclusivity of all who want to play and be associated with the great game of hockey. There will be multiple promotions for the game, including 250 "PSU Essentials" T-Shirts given to the first 250 students in attendance.
 



 
Additional attractions include a caricature artist, face painting, a balloon artist, and a free postgame skate with the team included with admission.
 



 
SERIES HISTORY VS. THE COLONIALS
This weekend's series will mark the 33rd and 34th meeting all-time between Penn State and Robert Morris. The Colonials lead the all-time matchup 22-4-6.
 
Penn State is searching for its first win over Robert Morris since the 2016-17 season when they won a 3-2 game at Robert Morris Feb. 17, 2017. Robert Morris is 7-0-1 in the last eight matchups.
 
Penn State and Robert Morris last met up Nov. 1-2 at the RMU Island Sports Complex. Robert Morris came scored ten total goals with win both games.
 
After an initial power-play score by RMU in game one, the Nittany Lions netted back-to-back goals by Brooke Madsen and Rachel Weiss to take the lead. The Colonials responded with four goals in the second and third periods to come back and win.
 
In game two, the Colonials scored twice in the first period and three more times in the second frame to coast to a 5-0 win, one of just three times PSU has been shutout in the 2019-20 season.
 
ALMOST TOURNAMENT TIME
Penn State has eight games remaining including this weekend's series against the Colonials while trailing RMU and Mercyhurst by just five points in the CHA standings.
 
PSU has yet to play Mercyhurst in its final home series Feb. 28-29 while also playing at RIT and Lindenwood back-to-back weeks before the CHA Tournament begins.
 
The CHA Tournament will be held once again in Buffalo, N.Y. March 5-7 at the HarborCenter. The single-elimination format features the 3-seed playing the 6-seed and the 4-seed playing the 5-seed in the first round. In the second round, teams are reseeded to play the 1-seed and 2-seed in the semifinals, both of which receive byes to that round.
 
The winner of the CHA Tournament receives an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament every year since the 2014-15 season.
 
The CHA Awards Banquet will be held Wednesday, March 4. All-conference performers will be revealed at the ceremony that evening.
