Stevens Named Senior CLASS Second-Team All-American

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Penn State men's basketball senior forward Lamar Stevens was a named Senior CLASS second-team All-American as announced this week. This honor is another on a lengthy list for the two-time All-Big Ten Conference selection.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, community, character and competition.

Penn State's leading scorer for a second consecutive year, Stevens helped PSU to 21 wins overall, 11 Big Ten Conference wins and positioned the team for an NCAA Tournament berth before the event was cancelled. He finished his four-year career as part of the winningest class in Penn State's Big Ten era with 76 wins and as one of only two Nittany Lions with 2,000 career points and 800 rebounds.

A product of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Stevens and his Nittany Lion teammates support the Centre Region Down Syndrome Society and its Buddy Walk each October and participated with Special Olympics Pennsylvania as part of the organization's annual summer event on campus.

This past year, Stevens authored a book to teach children about Pennsylvania geography, "Lamar's Climb – A Journey to Happy Valley." The book traced his path from his hometown to State College and the project included illustrations from six individuals connected to the Penn State men's basketball program.

Stevens received NABC All-District honors for the second-straight year and was a United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-District team selection for 2019-20. He was included on the watch lists for the Lute Olson National Player of the Year, the Naismith Trophy Player of the Year, John R. Wooden Award and Karl Malone Power Forward Award.

The Senior CLASS awards were chosen by a nationwide vote of Division I men's basketball coaches, national basketball media and fans.
