Three Nittany Lions Named All-CHA Performers For 2019-20 Season

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Three Penn State women's hockey student-athletes were honored by league coaches as all conference performers for College Hockey America for the 2019-20 regular season.

Junior goaltender Chantal Burke was selected All-CHA First Team, sophomore defender Izzy Heminger was named All-CHA Second Team, and freshman defender Mallory Uihlein was selected an All-Rookie Team performer.

Burke had one of the best regular seasons in program history for a Penn State goaltender in 2019-20. She leads the conference and ranks seventh in the country in both GAA (1.64) and save percentage (.938) while starting Penn State's last 21 games and 29 games overall.

The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, native has seven shutouts in her 12 wins this season, shattering the previous Penn State single season record of four (Jenna Brenneman 18-19 and Celine Whitlinger 15-16). Her seven-shutout total also ties the Penn State career record for shutouts.

With this year's postseason still to factor in, Burke's season GAA would rank second for a Penn State goaltender in team history, behind only Celine Whitlinger's 1.51 mark in 2015-16.

Burke also received her third CHA Goaltender of the Month award for her performance this past February, marking the most CHA monthly awards any PSU women's hockey student-athlete, skater or goaltender, has earned in a single season in program history.

Burke is the first Penn State goaltender and fourth Nittany Lion to be named to the All-CHA First Team.

Heminger was one of Penn State's most consistent performers on the blue line this season. In 32 games, she tallied 15 points on four goals and 11 assists and had a team-best plus-minus rating of +7, a rating that current ranks second-best in a season for the Nittany Lions.

The Dublin, Ohio, native ranks fourth in program history among defenders with 28 career points (8G, 20A) through just 66 career games. She also ranks fourth on the team with 78 shots on goal this season.

She had nine points in a 10-game stretch from Dec. 6-Feb. 7 and the Nittany Lions were 6-3-1 in those games.

Heminger is the fourth Nittany Lion defender to be named to the All-CHA Second Team.

Uihlein was a very welcomed addition to PSU's defensive group as she recorded 11 points (2G, 9A) for the Nittany Lions in the regular season and was second on the team in blocked shots with 58.

The Edina, Minn., native was chosen the CHA Rookie of the Month for November after a five-assist month, which included three at Vermont Nov. 29 to tie a program single-game high. She was named to the Windjammer Classic All-Tournament Team for her performance.

Uihlein was just the fourth Penn State player to win a CHA Rookie of the month award and becomes the third PSU freshman blue-liner to be named to the All-CHA Rookie Team.
