Dambach, USWNT Travel to Netherlands for Final Match of 2020

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's soccer head coach Erica Dambach will head to Breda, Netherlands with the U.S. Women's National Team as an assistant coach alongside Vlatko Andonovski for the USWNT match against the Netherlands on Friday, Nov. 27.

Dambach will be on her third stint with the USWNT in 2020, as Dambach joined the team for the USWNT Olympic Qualifying training camp in January as well as the SheBelieves Cup in March.

Dambach has significant past experience with the USWNT as an assistant coach for the gold medal winning 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2011 FIFA World Cup squads.

Andonovski named his 23-player roster for training camp on Tuesday, Nov. 17 for the USWNT's first competition in 261 days which featured former Nittany Lion goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher. Naeher enters the match with 63 CAPS and 36 shutouts since taking over as the USWNT primary keeper in 2015. 

The match for the USWNT will be the first since the US defeated Japan 3-1 to win the SheBelieves Cup.

The USA defeated the Netherlands 2-0 in the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup to capture the programs fourth World Cup.

Dambach will continue her duties as head coach with the Nittany Lions as Penn State prepares for the upcoming spring 2021 women's soccer season following the Big Ten's cancellation of fall sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dambach has led Penn State to the 2015 National Championship, 10 Big Ten regular season titles, four Big Ten Tournament titles, two College Cups and the NCAA Tournament in all 13 seasons at Penn State. The Nittany Lions have advanced to the to the NCAA Round of 16 or better in seven of the last nine seasons.

Dambach has been named the National Coach of the Year twice, Big Ten Coach of the Year four times and has led Penn State to 219 wins through 13 seasons.
