Porter Jr. Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State redshirt freshman cornerback Joey Porter Jr. has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, it was announced on Monday. Porter collects a Big Ten honor for the first time in his career and the Nittany Lions have back-to-back winners of the award with Keyvone Lee winning it last week.

Porter tallied six tackles (4 solo) in the win over Rutgers on Saturday. He added a tackle for loss as Penn State held Rutgers to a season-low in points and recorded the program's 900th all-time win.

Penn State's defense had 29 plays (out of 64 total plays; 45.3%) go for 1 yard or less (includes incompletions), 24 of which were for no gain or negative yardage (37.5%).The Nittany Lions held the Scarlet Knights to zero plays of 20-plus yards on defense or special teams for the first time since doing so against Eastern Michigan in 2013.
