As we head into the new wrestling season, let's take a second to say hello and meet some of the new faces the Nittany Nation will see on Penn State's roster for 2020-21. This time we check in with incoming freshman Robbie Howard who took the time to do a quick Q&A for GoPSUsports.com!
Q: Welcome to Happy Valley! What were the main reasons you chose Penn State and this program?
A: I chose Penn State because it seemed like the best fit for what I wanted. It has one of the best wrestling environments in the world, an amazing student and alumni connection and is a great academic school as well. On top of that, it is just over three hours from my house so my parents can come watch me wrestle.
Q: With the disruption that occurred nationally from the NCAA's reaction to a virus, how have you been able to interact with your new Nittany Lion teammates prior to coming to Penn State this Summer/Fall?
A: It has obviously been difficult to meet and get acquainted with my teammates due to the virus. However, I have previous relationships with many of the guys on the team which has made it easier for me to settle in despite the challenges. They are all a group of great guys.
Q: What are you most excited about doing when you get on campus as an official member of the Penn State family?
A: Wrestling in a sold out Rec Hall…and a sold out Bryce Jordan Center!
Q: What do you plan on majoring in and why?
A: I am currently undecided about my major. I think I am leaning toward something in marketing or advertising. Something that will help me expand and grow my brand if I decide I want to make a career out of wrestling.
Q: How do you plan on approaching the transition to competing athletically at this level?
A: I am well aware of the challenges that come with transitioning from high school to college. The only thing I can do is face each and every one head on. I am looking to learn, grow and get better and I know I have the right people around me to help me do that. It should be a fun challenge.
Q: If there is one thing you absolutely must bring with you from home to Penn State, what is it?
A: My XBOX. Since we are required to stay away from people, for me, that means staying in my dorm all day. That means get my schoolwork is done, then that means Call of Duty!
Q: What is the one thing you are going to miss most about not being home?
A: First of all my family obviously. I am seriously going to miss a Taylor Ham, egg and cheese on a plain bagel with salt, pepper and ketchup. Nothing like shooting your cholesterol through the roof to kickstart a good day lol!
