Johnasia Cash Named Big Ten Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's basketball forward Johnasia Cash has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week for her efforts in helping the Lady Lions to back-to-back home wins last week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

Cash shot 63.0 percent (17-for-27) from the field while averaging 22.5 points per game and 11.5 rebounds per contest to lead Penn State in its 2-0 week as the Lady Lions ran their win streak to four-straight. Penn State owns the Big Ten's longest active win streak.

The McKeesport, Pa. native started the week with her best effort of the season as Penn State took down Nebraska 85-74 Thursday night, going off for 27 points and a career-best 19 rebounds against the Huskers. Her 19 rebounds were the second-most boards by a Lady Lion in a conference game as a member of the Big Ten (since 1992-93).

Cash's performance against Nebraska secured her fourth-straight double-double, making her the first Penn State player to record double-doubles in four-consecutive games in 24 years. The last Lady Lion to accomplish the feat was Angie Potthoff in 1997.

Cash followed her big performance against Nebraska with an 18-point effort in Penn State's 98-74 win over Wisconsin Sunday. She shot 8-for-11 from the field against the Badgers and scored her 18 points in just 16 minutes of action. The forward added four rebounds, four steals and three assists against Wisconsin.

Cash has tallied seven double-doubles this season, including six of the last eight games. She is averaging 15.5 ppg and 9.3 rpg while shooting 50.5 percent (93-for-184) from the field thus far this season, including marks of 16.5 ppg and 9.9 rpg in Big Ten play.

Cash is the first Penn State player to be named Big Ten Player of the Week this season. She earned Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll laurels last week.

Penn State has won its last four games and five of its last seven. The Lady Lions own the Big Ten's longest active win streak.

Penn State returns to action Wednesday when the Lady Lions travel to #15 Indiana for a 4 p.m. tipoff on the Big Ten Network.
