Penn State Downs Nebraska, 4-0

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State men's tennis (5-6, 5-6 B1G) finished the weekend undefeated with a 4-0 victory over Nebraska (0-10, 0-10 B1G) Sunday afternoon in the Indoor Tennis Center. The Nittany Lions improve to 4-0 at home this season.

"I don't think it was as easy as the score indicates," head coach Jeff Zinn said. "We had a lot of tough matches out there with doubles coming down to the last match. Nebraska gave us everything they had and it shows how deep the Big Ten is and how many good players and teams there are. I'm glad that we came out with a win and now we have to set our sights on the perennial best team in the conference in Ohio State. We need to have to a great week of practice to get ready for them."

"Doubles was close, we had difficulty controlling the net in the beginning, but it was a huge relief to earn the point," associate head coach Paul Tobin said. "It felt good that we could find the three extra points in singles to get the win. Great way to finish the weekend. I am proud of our guys."

DOUBLES

For the third consecutive match, the Nittany Lions walked away with the doubles point. It came down to court three where the freshmen pair of Sam Bossem (Wimborne Minster, United Kingdom) and Miko Eala (Philippines/Manacor, Spain) clinched Penn State's first point.

On court two, Christian Lakoseljac (King City, Ontario, Canada) and Christos Antonopoulos (Athens, Greece) earned their fourth-straight win as they put away William Gleason and Shunya Maruyama, 6-2.

The Huskers' duo of Brandon Perez and Victor Moreno Lozano defeated Tim Ruetzel (Munich, Germany) and Charl Morgan (Johannesburg, South Africa) by a score of 6-4.

In the final match, Sam Bossem and Miko Eala improved to 4-0 as a doubles team, defeating Albert Sprlak-Puk and Nic Wiedenhorn, 7-5 at No. 3.

SINGLES

Penn State earned wins on the first three courts to solidify the win. The remaining three matches were left unfinished.

Extending the lead to 2-0, rookie Miko Eala swept Huskers' Brandon Perez 6-2, 6-4 to capture his seventh Big Ten win of the year.

On court two, Bora Sengul (Denizli, Turkey) gave the Nittany Lions a 3-0 lead as he defeated Shunya Maruyama in straight sets 7-6(7), 6-0. Sengul won his third-straight match at the No. 2 slot.

Senior captain Christian Lakoseljac clinched the match for Penn State in a hard-fought battle with Victor Moreno Lozano, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.
