ROSEMONT, Ill. – Penn State men's soccer student-athletes Pierre Reedy and Kris Shakes earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. Reedy is the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week, sharing the honors with Indiana's Ryan Wittenbrink, while Shakes is the Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week, sharing the honors with Indiana's Roman Celentano.
Reedy, a redshirt senior midfielder, netted the late game-winning goal for Penn State against Wisconsin on March 27 as he converted a penalty kick in the 87th minute. It marked his second game-winning goal of the season and his third goal, both career highs.
The Kutztown, Pa., native has played and started in every game for the Nittany Lions, and he leads the team with 15 total shots, including eight on goal.
Shakes, a sophomore goalkeeper, is a perfect 5-0-0 in net for Penn State this season, with three-straight shutouts dating back to March 19. He made five saves against Ohio State on March 23 and three against Wisconsin on March 27 to keep both opponents out of the back of the net.
The Sunrise, Fla., native holds a 0.80 goals-against average and a .826 save percentage, good for third and second in the league, respectively.
The honors are a career first for both Reedy and Shakes. They mark the second and third Big Ten honors for Penn State this season after freshman Peter Mangione was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Feb. 24.
The Nittany Lions return to the pitch on Wednesday in College Park, Md. as they take on the Maryland Terrapins. Kickoff will now be at noon ET live on Big Ten Network, moved up from the original 5 p.m. start due to impending weather.
