Penn State Closes Out Husker B1G Invite

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Penn State track & field team completed competition at the Huskers B1G Invitational in Texas on Saturday.

Junior Yasmin Brooks continued her strong start to the season by winning the women's 100-meter hurdles final with a time of 13.52. Victoria Tachinski followed with a second place finish in the women's 800m run, recording a time of 2:09.08.

Several Nittany Lions had big days in field events on Saturday. Penn State took the top three spots in the men's javelin with Mark Porter getting the victory with a 72.13m (236-07) throw, Chris Fredericks placing second with a PR of 68.74m (225-06) and Kevin Bartosh taking third with a 65.03m (213-04) throw. Madison Smith recorded the Big Ten's fifth best throw of the season in the women's javelin with a mark of 49.58m (162-08).

Breana Gambrell set a new outdoor PR in the triple jump, placing fourth with a jump of 12.43m. Two Nittany Lions placed in the top five in the women's pole vault, with Katie Jones finishing third with a top jump of 4.04m (13-03.00) and Hailey Zurich finishing fifth with a jump of 3.94m (12-11.00)

A day after setting a program record in the decathlon shot put, Noah Swaby set another personal record with a 46.60m throw in the decathlon discus throw. His 7517 overall decathlon score set a new personal record, topping his 7411 score from the 2019 Big Ten Outdoor Championships. 

Penn State's run of Big Ten competitions continues next weekend when the team travels to Champaign, Ill., for the Big Ten Relays. The two-day event is scheduled for April 23 and 24.
