KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Four Penn State men's soccer student-athletes landed themselves on 2020-21 All-North Region teams as announced by United Soccer Coaches Tuesday evening. Redshirt seniors Brandon Hackenberg and Pierre Reedy and junior Danny Bloyou highlight the first team while junior Seth Kuhn earned second-team honors.
Bloyou earns the first all-region honors of his career with first team accolades. The transfer from Philadelphia, Pa. finished the season with a team-high eight goals and two assists for a tied team-high 18 total points, all career bests. The forward had two multi-goal games, against Rutgers on March 15 and against Ohio State on April 10 in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals. Bloyou's average 0.62 goals per game was good for second in the conference and 32nd nationally while his eight total goals ranked top 15 in the country (14).
Bloyou also earned National Player of the Week honors from College Soccer News (March 15-21) as well as two Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week nods (March 23, April 13) during his junior campaign.
Hackenberg collects his second career all-region honors, jumping to first team in 2020-21 after being on the third team in 2019. The defender from Palmyra, Va. started every single game on the backline for Penn State, contributing to three consecutive shutouts. Hackenberg played all but five minutes in the entire season as a veteran leader and team co-captain. He also had one assist.
Reedy garnered his first career all-region honors on first team. The midfielder from Kutztown, Pa. finished the season with a career-high 14 points on a career-best five goals and four assists. His first goal of the season against Maryland on Feb. 19 was long overdue as his first goal since his true freshman season in 2016 after he's battled back from two season-ending knee injuries in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. As team co-captain, Reedy totaled 1,025 minutes on the pitch in the midfield.
Reedy's 14 total points stood top 50 nationally at 49th while his total goals and total assists were both top 70 at 63rd and 69th, respectively. He was also named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week on March 30.
Finally, Kuhn gathered his first career all-region honors with a second team award. The midfielder from Wyomissing, Pa. finished the year with a career-high eight points on a career-best two goals and four assists. He was the true heart and soul and leader in the middle of the field for the Nittany Lions as a central midfielder, playing 1,169 minutes on the pitch, second most on the team.
Kuhn had a single-game career high three-point performance against Rutgers on March 15 with one goal and an assist. He was considered an honorable mention on Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week for the week of Feb. 15-21.
The Nittany Lions' three first team all-region selections are the most since they had three selected in the 2009 season.
Bloyou, Hackenberg and Reedy were all named as All-Big Ten first-team honorees at the conclusion of the 2020-21 regular season. Kuhn was an All-Big Ten second-team recipient.
Penn State finished the 2020-21 season with a 9-2-2 overall record after falling to defending national champions Georgetown in the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.
