CARY, N.C. – The No. 9 Penn State women's soccer team (12-2-1, 9-1-1) will meet the ACC champions and No. 1 overall seed Florida St (12-0-0, 8-0-0) on Wednesday, May 5 at 3 p.m. ET in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. 

This is the sixth matchup in program history and second time in the last three seasons in the NCAA Tournament.

Nittany Lions Last Time Out

A two-goal second half lifted the Penn State women's soccer team (12-2-1, 9-1-1) to a 2-0 win over the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday afternoon. Senior Kristin Schnurr and freshman Eva Alonso scored in the win to send Penn State to its fourth straight Sweet 16.

Penn State has not allowed a goal in the NCAA Tournament, outscoring opponents 7-0 in its first two games.

The Nittany Lions have advanced to the Sweet 16 in eight of the last 10 seasons. Penn State has advanced to the Sweet 16 nine times under Erica Dambach.

Sam Coffey's 11 assists are the second most in her career, she had 14 in her sophomore season at Boston College. She is the NCAA active leader in points (113) and assists (45).

Kristin Schnurr's game-winning goal is the second game-winner in the NCAA tournament for her. She previously scored the game-winner against South Carolina in 2018 to advance Penn State to the third round of the tournament.

This will be the second time in the last three seasons Penn State has played Florida State in the NCAA Tournament (2018 quarterfinals).

NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY

Penn State makes its 26th-straight NCAA Tournament in 2020-21, a streak dating back to 1995.

A five-time College Cup participant (1999, 2002, 2005, 2012, & 2015), Penn State advanced to the quarterfinals 13 times (5-8).

Penn State has a 57-23-2 all-time record in the NCAA Tournament with a record of 31-12-1 under Erica Dambach.

BIG TEN HONORS

Head coach Erica Dambach was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year for the fifth time in her career. Redshirt sophomore Ally Schlegel was named the Forward of the Year, senior captain Sam Coffey was named the Midfielder of the Year and Eva Alonso was named the Co-Freshman of the Year.

Penn State was also well represented on the respective All-Big Ten teams. Schlegel, Coffey and Frankie Tagliaferri all earned first team honors. Payton Linnehan and Alonso were named to the All-Big Ten second team and Alonso was also named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team. Senior captain Kerry Abello was honored with the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
