University Park, Pa. - The Penn State Nittany Lion fencing teams, under the guidance of interim head coach Adam Kaszubowksi, will have eight representatives travel to St. Louis, Mo. this weekend for the October North American Cup. There will also be 14 additional Penn Staters competing independently for the event held Oct. 29 – Nov. 1.
The NAC will feature athletes of all ages with different divisions for each competition level.
Fencing for the women's epee squad this weekend will be Kateryna Chorniy (Kyiv, Ukraine) and Jaclyn Khrol (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Samantha Catantan (Quezon City, Phillipines) will represent women's foil for the Nittany Lions.
In men's epee, Jonathan Piskovatskov (Houston, Texas), Ryan Griffiths (Fair Lawn, N.J.), Stafford Moosekian (Los Angeles, Calif.), and Devin Tafoya (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) will compete. Fencing in men's foil will be Arwen Borowiak (Tauberbischofscheim, Germany).
The following Nittany Lions will travel to the event to compete unattached: Mitchel Bekker (Epee); Peter Kambeseles (Epee); Daniel Shifron (Epee); Evan Xu (Epee); Caiden Cannon (Foil); Gavin Hay (Foil); Shane Iverson (Foil); Aidan Johnson (Foil); Donavyn Martinez (Foil); Konner Paik (Foil); Nirali Igoe (Epee); Nick Zielinski (Saber); Jeff Basalyga (Saber); and Kamar Skeete (Saber).
The following week will be the Nittany Lions' first home meet, the Garret Open, in University Park, Pa. The two-day event will take place on Nov. 6-7 at the Multi-Sport building (indoor track).
