Mackenzie Allessie Named B1G Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State junior Mackenzie Allessie (Mount Joy, Pa.) has been named Big Ten Field Hockey's Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 31, 2021. The honor is the third of the year for Penn State.

Allessie notched three points in Penn State's 3-2 overtime win over No. 2 Michigan on Friday night, including the game-winning goal in overtime. Allessie had an assist Sophia Gladieux's game-tying goal with just 1:45 left to play as the homestanding Nittany Lions sent the game to extra time on Senior Night. The Mount Joy, Pa., native then scored the game winner with 2:20 left in overtime, off an assist from Emma Spisak, to lift Penn State to victory.

The win improves Penn State to 13-4 overall and allows the team to finish the Big Ten regular season with a 6-2 mark, tied for second in the standings. Allessie has 29 points off nine goals and a team-best 11 assists. The Nittany Lions will take on Maryland in the 2021 Big Ten Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 4, at Rutgers.  Penn State and Maryland tangle at 5 p.m. in the quarterfinals, with the winner advancing to Friday's semifinals.
