UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State softball head coach Clarisa Crowell announced the addition of two student-athletes to the class of 2022 after they signed their National Letter of Intent on Wednesday. Paige Maynard (Charlestown, W.V.) and Lilian Berry (Mount Sidney, Va.) will join the Nittany Lions in fall 2022.
"I am very excited to welcome Paige and Lilian to our Penn State family," said head coach Clarisa Crowell. "They are extremely talented pitchers who are hard-working, competitive, and both want to win at a high level. Paige will bring great energy and enthusiasm on the mound, and Lilian will bring a fierce competitiveness both on the mound and in the box as a hitter. Most importantly, they are individuals of high integrity who will strive for excellence in all that they do, and I know they will be a great fit culturally for our program. I am looking forward to their arrival to campus next fall. Welcome, Lilian and Paige!"
Berry, a pitcher, comes to Happy Valley by way of Mount Sidney, Virginia, and Fort Defiance High School. Berry is a two-time first team all-district honoree (2020, 2021) as she helped her team to a 2021 District Championship and a runner-up finish in the regionals. As a junior last season, Berry helped the Indians to a 13-3 record while batting .348 with four home runs and averaging 1.7 strikeouts and a 1.05 ERA in the circle. She is also a three-year member of the Fort Defiance varsity basketball team, earning first team all-district nods in 2020 as well as a 2020 district title and a runner-up finish in 2021. Berry is interested in majoring in either political science or exercise science.
