UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State senior Gabby Blossom was named the Big Ten Setter of the Week on Monday, earning the award for the eighth time in her career. That ranks as the fifth most in conference history. The award was first given out in 2012.
Blossom averaged 13.50 assists and 3.13 digs in the Nittany Lions' wins over Michigan and Michigan State over the weekend. She finished with 55 assists and seven digs in a four-set win over the Wolverines and then recorded a double-double with 53 assists and 18 digs in a four-set win over the Spartans.
Blossom, who has won four Big Ten Setter of the Week honors this season, has registered 14 double-doubles with assists and digs this season. Blossom is averaging 11.70 assists/set during conference play, which ranks first in the Big Ten. She is leading the Lions to a conference-best .272 hitting in conference matches.
Penn State goes on the road to play No. 11 Nebraska on Friday at 9 p.m., and then makes the trip to Columbus to play No. 10 Ohio State on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Lions wrap up the regular season with home matches against No. 8 Minnesota and Iowa the following weekend. All three matches against the nationally-ranked opponents will air on Big Ten Network.
