Full Big Ten Release

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Nittany Lion sophomore defenseman Jimmy Dowd Jr. (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) was named Big Ten Hockey Third Star of the Week earlier Tuesday morning following his performances during a weekend split at then-No. 7 Minnesota.

Dowd Jr. paced Penn State with three points in the two games on one goal and two assists. The sophomore collected his second multi-point game of the season and the fourth of his career with a pair of assists in Friday's 5-3 victory including an assist on the eventual game-winning goal.

Dowd Jr. then added his first goal of the season to open the scoring on Saturday night. This marks the first career weekly award for the sophomore as he joins teammates Kevin Wall, Clayton Phillips and Connor MacEachern as weekly award winners so far this season.

Dowd Jr.'s eight points on the season are tied for fifth among blue-liners in the Big Ten and tied for 34th nationally.

Penn State returns to action tonight as the Nittany Lions begin a two-game non-conference series against the University of St. Thomas with an 8 p.m. (ET) puck drop.
