LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Penn State men's tennis team put together a strong opening day at its final fall tournament of the season Friday at the Liberty Hidden Dual Friday as the Nittany Lions took on the host Flames.
Doubles
Penn State won two of four matches in doubles Friday. The duo of Sam Bossem and Malik Bhatnagar defeated Liberty's Thando Longwe-Smit and Rafael Marques Da Silva in a 6-4 match. Alexander Karman and Bora Sengul also emerged victorious in a 6-4 conclusion.
Charl Morgan and Miko Eala fell to Christian Worst and Deji Thomas-Smith, 6-4, while Ismail Saadi and Chikaya Sato were also defeated. Flames Goncala Ferriera and Zion Heaven took that match, 7-5. In an outside match versus Penn, Ondrej Ctverak and Andrei Paduraru lost 6-4.
Singles
Winning five of the eight matches played, Penn State also found success on the singles courts. In a 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-3 match, Sengul overcame Da Silva and Miko Eala took on Worst to a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 winning decision. Bhatnagar and Bossem also triumphed over their opponents 6-3, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-3, respectively. Harrison Janes took the final match of the day versus Liberty's Omar El Kadi, 7-6, 6-2.
In the three losses, Morgan was defeated by Thomas-Smith, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(4), Sato fell to Josh Wilson, 6-1, 6-4, and Saadi lost to Heaven, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
In another outside match against Penn, Alexander Karman was defeated 6-0, 3-6, 6-3.
Action at the Liberty Hidden Dual resumes Saturday.
