Allessie and Gladieux Named First Team NFHCA All-Americans

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Two members of head coach Char Morett-Curtiss' Penn State field hockey team have been honored with the announcement of the 2021 National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-America teams. Junior Mackenzie Allessie (Mount Joy, Pa.) and sophomore Sophia Gladieux (Boyertown, Pa.) have been named an NFHCA First Team All-Americans.

Allessie is now a three-time All-American, earning first team honors for a second year in a row (and third team honors as a true freshman).  Allessie also has a lengthy list of 2021 accolades.  She was named to the NFHCA All-Region first team for the third straight season. She was also a first team All-Big Ten pick for the third straight time. Allessie, in her first year at Penn State, ended the season with 30 points off nine goals and a team-high 12 assists.

Gladieux is now a two-time All-American, earning second team honors last year.  Fresh off being named the NFHCA Mideast Region Player of the Year, her latest award adds to an already crowded list from this season.  She earned first team NFHCA All-Region honors for the second straight season earlier this fall as well. The Nittany Lion earned first team All-Big Ten honors this year and was named to the 2021 Big Ten All-Tournament Team. Gladieux was a second team NFHCA All-American last year as a true freshman. Gladieux ended the season with a team best 38 points off 18 goals and two assists.

Penn State's last first team All-American was Moira Putsch in 2017. Gladieux was a second teamer last season (the 2020 season held in the Spring of '21). This is the first time Penn State has had two first team All-Americans in the same season since 2007 (Jen Long, Kiersten Wood).

The Nittany Lions ended the season with a 14-6 overall record, placed second in the Big Ten regular season with a 6-2 mark, advanced to the 2021Big Ten Tournament semifinals and earned a spot in the 2021 NCAA Championship Tournament.
