UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's volleyball senior Cal Fisher was named the Off the Block national opposite of the week as announced by the outlet Monday.
Fisher's versatility was on display throughout the Nittany Lions' season-opening series against BYU last Thursday and Saturday and the Pittsburgh native helped power PSU to two 3-0 wins.
On Thursday, Jan. 6, Fisher tied his career single-match best with five blocks, including two solos, to go with eight kills while hitting .429 (8-2-14).
The reigning OTB national server of the year exhibited his great left-handed serve throughout the weekend with two aces on Thursday and six aces Saturday, including a set-clinching ace in the first set and three aces in a row in set two of Penn State's second win of the week.
Fisher became the ninth Nittany Lion in program history to reach 100 career service aces and now ranks eighth overall in program history with 101 service aces in 71 career matches.
Fisher also added seven kills while hitting .600 (7-1-10) and six digs to stuff the box score and help the Nittany Lions knock off the No. 6 Cougars for the second-straight match.
Fisher and the Nittany Lions return to the court this Thursday and Saturday, Jan. 13 and 15, when they host Grand Canyon at Rec Hall. Both matches are set to start at 7 p.m.
