UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's volleyball seniors Sam Marsh and Cole Bogner were both recognized for their individual play in last week's series against Grand Canyon by the AVCA, EIVA and Off the Block.
Marsh collected his first EIVA offensive player of the week honor as announced Monday. On Tuesday, he was also tabbed the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's DI-II Player of the Week, becoming the second Nittany Lion to win the award in the last two seasons (Cal Fisher, March 23, 2021).
The Nittany Lions had a two-win weekend and both players were key reasons for it. Marsh had a special offensive performance against Grand Canyon that saw him tally 19 kills over the two matches. Marsh started the weekend with 12 kills on 12 swings, including a 7-for-7 performance last Thursday.
The London, England native set a personal single-match best with 12 kills in Saturday's win. His .783 hitting percentage (19-1-23) led Penn State for the weekend and spiked his team-best hitting percentage to .533 on the season. Marsh also added two aces and four blocks.
Bogner had 72 assists and led Penn State to a .386 team hitting percentage over both matches.
The Chesapeake, Va. native also had four service aces and six digs for the weekend. The 2021 EIVA Player of the Year has picked up right where he left off from last season as the Nittany Lions are hitting .404 as a team through four games against ranked opponents early in 2022.
Marsh, Bogner and the Nittany Lions head to Los Angeles for the B1G/Pac12 Challenge this coming weekend with matches against USC and UCLA Jan. 21-22.
