Wallin Leads Eight Goal Scorers with Hat Trick in Big Win at LIU

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – Penn State women's hockey reached double-digit scoring for just the second time in program history in its 10-0 nonconference win at LIU Friday afternoon at Northwell Health Ice Center.

Olivia Wallin (Oakville, Ontario) scored her first collegiate hat trick as she along with seven other Nittany Lions found the back of the net in the win.

Penn State's (16-9-4) other goal scorers included Lyndie Lobdell (Aurora, Ill.), Karley Garcia (Roseville, Calif.), Julie Gough (Newscastle, Ontario), Mya Vaslet (Stittsville, Ontario), Anna Promersberger (Fargo, N.D.) Rachel Weiss (Calgary, Alberta) Izzy Heminger (Dublin, Ohio).

HOW IT HAPPENED
Just over two minutes into the contest, the Nittany Lions broke the ice after a shift with great pressure in the offensive end. Weiss centered the puck from behind the net after a nice power move, and Lobdell crept forward from the blue line to collect the puck between the circles.

Lobdell shot the puck with a quick wrist shot that found the net to give Penn State the 1-0 lead 2:15 into the first period.

Two more goals from the Nittany Lions in the middle of the first period set the tone for Penn State, starting with another score from a PSU defender. Garcia went on the attack down the right wing and received a pass from Natalie Heising (Wayzata, Minn.) and proceeded to rip a quick snap shot for Penn State's second goal of the day at 11:15 in the first period.

Less than two minutes later, Penn State continued to put pressure with rushes on offense and netted a third, this time from Wallin. Promersberger tracked down the puck on the left half wall and went tape-to-tape on a pass with Wallin who picked her spot and found the cage.

Wallin's fourth of the season at 13:06 in the first allowed Penn State to carry a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.

Penn State kept its foot on the gas in the second period with another score less than a minute into the second period. Gough converted an early 3-on-2 rush for Penn State just 57 seconds into the frame, making it 4-0 for the visitors.

The Nittany Lions added three more scores in the second period to complete the ice touchdown. Vaslet crashed the crease at 5:14 for her fifth of the year, followed by Promersberger's goal on a nice backdoor pass from Garcia at 10:45.

Wallin added her second of the game on a rebound at the 11:29 mark to make it 7-0. Cam Leonard took over in net for Penn State after the Wallin score and her and the Nittany Lions kept the Sharks off the board as PSU led 7-0 through 40 minutes.

Weiss adding to the scoring barrage with her sixth of the season at 6:20 in the third period, soon followed by Wallin's third of the game to complete her hat trick at 7:55 in the frame to give Penn State a 9-0 lead.

The 10th goal of the afternoon came off the stick of Heminger for her first of the year at the 12:36 mark to finish the scoring for either team in Penn State's 10-0 win.
