Penn State Men’s Swimming and Diving Concludes Big Ten Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, In. – The Penn State Men's Swimming & Diving team concluded the fourth day of competition and the 2022 Men's Big Ten Championships tonight at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center in West Lafayette, Indiana. 
 
On day four, the Nittany Lions achieved sixteen top-24 finishes and broke one school record. 
 
Penn State finished the meet in 8th overall. During the championships the team broke five school records and earned 38 top-24 finishes and 626 points. 
 
Day 4 
The Nittany Lions' 16 top-24 finishers placed them in 8th with a total of 626 points on the fourth and final day of competition at Purdue University. Junior Daniel Raisanen broke a school record in the 200 breast. 
 
In the 1650 free freshman Eduardo Moraes finished in 14th place with a time of 15:20.87. Junior Sam Rennard finished behind in 18th place with a time of 15:36.44. In the 200 back senior Michael Daly finished in 5th place with a time of 1:41.29 and made the NCAA B-cut. Junior Lachlan Byrne came in 13th place in the 200 back with a time of 1:44.16 and made the NCAA B-cut. 
 
In the 100 free, freshman Victor Baganha came in 8th place with a time of 42.73, an NCAA B-cut.
 
In the 200 breast Raisanen finished in 4th place with a time of 1:54.03, an NCAA B-cut and school record breaking time. The time Raisanen beat is 1:56.78 from 2012. Senior William Lulek finished in 13th place in the 200 breast with a time of 1:57.55.

Senior Carlos Vasquez came in 17th place in the 200 fly with a time of 1:46.12. Lastly, in the 400 free relay Daly, senior Devon Chenot, sophomore Thomas Hurley and sophomore Jake Houck earned 8th place with a time of 2:58.15.
 
Day 3
The Nittany Lions' ten top-24 finishes placed them in 7th with 427 points on day three of the four-day competition. 
 
In the 100 Fly, Baganha placed fifth with a time of 45.19 and broke the school record. His time made the NCAA B-cut. In the 400 IM, Daly earned fourth place with a time of 3:42.49, which earned him an NCAA B-cut. This time was just short of Daly's current fastest time of 3:42.38 which he swam in 2019. Lulek came in 13th place in the 400 IM with a time of 3:49.72, which is an NCAA B-cut. 
 
In the 200 Free, Moraes placed 18th place with a time of 1:36.81. In the 100 Breast, Raisanen earned 5th place with a school record breaking time of 52.12 and he made the NCAA B-cut. 

Day 2
The Nittany Lions six top-24 finishes placed them in 7th with 230 points on day two of the four-day competition.
 
Baganha led Penn State's finalists in the 50 free. Baganha swam to 3rd place with a time of 19.18 and made an NCAA B-cut. Following that, William Roberson came in 13th place in the 50 free with a time of 19.62 and made the NCAA B-cut. Houck came in 15th place with a time of 19.69 and made the NCAA B-cut. 
 
In the 500 free, Moraes placed 13th with a time of 4:22.86 and made the NCAA B-cut. In the 200 IM, Daly placed 11thwith a time of 1:45.43 and made an NCAA B-cut and Lulek placed 22nd with a time of 1:47.63.

Nittany Lion Relays
In the relays, the Nittany Lions broke two school records. They broke records in the 200-medley relay and the 400-medley relay. 
 
On Wednesday, the 200-medley relay team of Roberson, Raisanen, Baganha and Houck swam for a school record and made the NCAA B-cut with a time of 1:24.57. They broke the school record time of 1:24.89 from the 2014 relay team.
 
On Thursday the 400-medley relay team of Byrne, Raisanen, Baganha and Roberson swam for a school record time of 3:06.36 and made the NCAA B-cut. They broke the school record time of 3:08.01 from the 2015 relay team. 
 
On Friday in the 200 Free relay Penn State finished with a time of 1:17.17 and earned the NCAA B-cut. Relay contributors are Baganha, Roberson, Houck and junior Zane Sutton.

Nittany Lion Divers 
Senior Jonah Cey represented Penn State on the boards. Cey placed 20th in the platform dive with a score of 255.45. In the 3M dive he placed 22nd with a score of 314.27.

The Men's Swimming & Diving NCAA Championships will be held from March 23-26 in Atlanta, Ga. at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.
