Track & Field Kicks off Road Meet in New York

NEW YORK, N.Y.  – The Penn State track & field team kicked off its first road trip of 2022 on Friday at the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge at the New York Armory.
 
The Nittany Lions competed in 11 events on the day.
 
Two Penn State women earned victories on the day, with Yasmin Brooks nearly matching her PR with a win in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.24 and Mallory Kauffman winning the shot put with a personal best throw of 16.59m. She has now recorded throws above 16 meters in three consecutive meets. The throw ranks third in Penn State history. 
 
The women also had a strong day in the long jump, with Breana Gambrell recording a season best 6.15m jump to place fourth and Tesia Thomas setting a new PR of 5.82m to place fifth.
 
On the men's side, Luke Knipe matched his season best of 5.10m in the pole vault to place third. Lance Hamilton kicked of his 2022 season with a third place finish in the triple jump (15.02m). Freshman Emi Erekosima finished right behind him in fourth with a personal best jump of 14.85m.
 
The Nittany Lions will see increased action in the meets second day on Saturday, competing in 18 events throughout the day. The day will begin at 8:45 a.m. when Chloe Royce competes in the women's pentathlon.
