Men's Lacrosse Earns National and B1G Weekly Awards

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's lacrosse players earned weekly awards at the national and conference level Tuesday for their performances in a 10-6 win over No. 5 Yale over the weekend. Redshirt junior Aleric Fyock was named the USA Lacrosse Magazine Division I Player of the Week and the Big Ten Co-Specialist of the Week, while senior Brayden Peck was selected as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and Jeb Brenfleck was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

Fyock earned his awards for a spectacular effort in goal for the Lions. He made a career-high 21 saves on 27 chances against the fifth-ranked team in the country. After giving up two goals on the first three shots he faced, Fyock stopped 20 of the next 24 shots that came his way. He and the Penn State defense allowed just one goal in the second half.

Peck was a part of an overall solid defensive showing by Penn State as the Lions allowed the program's fewest goals in a game since a 19-4 win over Saint Joseph's on Feb. 15, 2020, and its fewest allowed in a game against a nationally-ranked opponent since an 18-6 win over No. 20 Rutgers in the semifinal round of the Big Ten Tournament on May 2, 2019. Peck led the Lions with three caused turnovers.

Brenfleck totaled four points on three goals and one assist in the win over the Bulldogs. He scored twice to fuel a 5-0 run in the first quarter that gave the Lions a 5-2 lead and then finished off the hat trick with a goal that put his team up 7-5 in the third quarter. He assisted on Jack Kelly's goal just over a minute later to make it a three-goal game. Brenfleck ranks fourth on the team in both points (10) and goals (8).

Penn State has won four Big Ten weekly awards this season. Nils Barry was named the Freshman of the Week following a season-opening win over Lafayette.

The Lions head to Charlotte for their next game. They will take on No. 6 Penn on Saturday at 4 p.m. The game is part of the Crown Classic and will be played at American Legion Memorial Stadium.
