Nittany Lions to Host Saint Joseph’s on Saturday

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's lacrosse team follows up their home opening defeat of No. 21 James Madison this week with another home game as they host Saint Joseph's on Saturday, March 12.
 
First draw is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Holuba Hall. Due to space constraints, the game is closed to the general public.

The Nittany Lions are 3-2 heading into their second home game of the season. SJU is 3-3 on the season.

• PSU and SJU will face one another for the first time on Saturday.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS
• SJU is 3-3 and enters the game with PSU after falling 20-8 at Towson a week ago.
• Senior Lauren Figura was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week after combining for nine goals in a 1-1 week for the Hawks. She led the team in scoring with four goals in the win over Villanova and a five-goal performance in Saturday's loss at Towson.
• Figura leads the team with 19 goals and 21 points this season.
• The next leading scorer is junior Lisa Ross with nine goals and nine assists.
• Senior Sophia Kolkka leads the team with 26 won draw controls and seven caused turnovers.
 
PSU STATISTICAL RANKINGS
• PSU is tied for fifth in the nation in clearing percentage (.927).
• PSU is tied eighth in the nation in fewest turnovers per game (11.2).
• PSU is ranked 18th in Division 1 draw control percentage (.565) and 25th in draw controls per game (15.6).
• Junior Kara Nealon is tied seventh in the nation by averaging 2.6 assists per contest.

• On Wednesday, PSU beat No. 21 James Madison 14-10 in the Nittany Lions' home opener in Holuba Hall.
• Penn State went on an eight-goal run mid-way through the game.
• The Nittany Lions caused a season-best 11 turnovers. The Dukes committed 20 total turnovers while PSU had just 13 comparatively
• Sophomore Kristin O'Neill led all scorers with four goals, two on free position shots. She also accounted for two caused turnovers, two draw controls, one assist and one ground ball.
• Junior Kara Nealon tallied three assists for her fourth multi-assist game this season. 
• Sophomore Sammy Dupcak led all players with ten of Penn State's 14 draw controls. She picked up a team-best four ground balls.
• Freshman goalkeeper Ashley Bowan earned her first win as she played all 60 minutes with five saves.
• Kristin O'Neill leads the Lions with 14 goals. She has four multi-goal games this year.
• Junior Kara Nealon has a team best 13 assists this season.
• Sophomore Kayla Abernathy has won a team best 26 draw controls.
• Senior Mary Muldoon and junior Rachel Spilker were elected captains for the 2022 season.
• Grad transfer Taylor Regan and sophomores Sammy Dupcak and Kristin O'Neill were named Big Ten Players to Watch.
• 2021's Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Kristin O'Neill, was named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List.
• Head Coach Missy Doherty is in her 12th season leading the Nittany Lions. 
• Doherty notched her 200th career victory following the Lions' Feb. 23 win at Duquesne.
