University Park, Pa. - Ten Penn State fencers have qualified for NCAA Championships and will represent Penn State at the 2022 fencing championship held March 24-27 at the Castellan Family Fencing Facility in Notre Dame, Ind.
Senior Ryan Griffiths (Fair Lawn, N.J.) will be the sole representative in men's epee. Griffiths is currently the reigning NCAA champion in his weapon in addition to qualifying in the 2018-2019 season.
Qualifiers in the men's foil squad include sophomore standout Arwen Borowiak (Tauberbischofsheim, Germany) and five-time qualifier Sebastiano Bicego (Vicenza, Italy). This is Borowiak's second time qualifying. Bicego has earned two All-America honors and placed fifth in foil in the 2021 NCAA Championships.
Representing Penn State in men's saber is freshman Kamar Skeete (Duluth, Ga.) and Clement Perrier (Allauch, France). This will be Perrier's third time qualifying and Skeete's first.
Kateryna Chorniy (Kyiv, Ukraine) and Axelle Wasiak (Vlaams-Brabant, Belgium) have qualified in women's epee. This is both Chorniy and Wasiak's second time qualifying for NCAA championships. Both Chorniy and Axelle also earned All-America laurels in the 2020-2021 season with incredible records.
Two time qualifier, sophomore Samantha Catantan (Quezon City, Philippines) is the sole representative in women's foil. Catantan placed third in NCAA Championships last year, winning all 20 bouts, becoming an All-American as a freshman.
Qualifiers in women's saber include Ola Strzalkowski (Littleton, Colo.) and Pauline Conscience (Paris, France). This will be both Strzalkowski and Conscience's first time qualifying for NCAAs though Conscience was an alternate in the 2020-2021 year.
